Anatomy of a Coined Phrase
Nick Peters
93%* of what people say are canned phrases. A typical conversation goes something like this:
You son of a gun, how’s it going? (canned)
I’m on Cloud 9! (canned)
Well you should be, Bob’s your uncle. (canned)
Ok, so maybe that is more typical if you’re an Aussie. You get my drift (canned).
People love phrases, but it’s time we got some new options to choose from. The trouble is why would anyone use their cunning and skill to think of a new phrase when they probably won’t get credit?
Most canned phrases seem to come from the ether, but it’s only logical that someone said it first. And that someone is either a famous person or a nobody.
Coin That Phrase is here to give a direct link back to the nobodies that do the hard work of coining phrases.
Once a hot new phrase has been coined, it’s time to spread the word. And what better way to do that than almighty t-shirts and social networks? That’s what we’re here for; all your coining and spreading needs.
Sounds like we’re a cross between the US Mint and Jiff.
*According to a study I did where I quiered my brain for a randomly high number between 90 and 100.
